Fighting Fear in Witnessing
With Easter coming I challenge you to think about those people in your life that you’ve yet to share your faith with. I ask: what’s been stopping you?
I am no better than you. I fail at witnessing quite frequently, especially with those closest to me.
I am not the Savior. I cannot be the saving grace. But if I don’t even try to tell others where my hope comes from and why then my love for them is fake.
It’s no better than watching that friend dangle from a cliff and doing nothing. You’d never stand by and not reach out a hand. You wouldn’t look at them and say, “I have a rope.” But keep it in your bag and never pull it out.
Here’s what our job is: to lay down the rope and stand at the other end waiting to pull or reach out a hand and wait.
You can lead a horse to water but cannot force them to drink. I can not force anyone off the edge of the cliff but I can prove my love for them by extending the message. Just because they know what I believe doesn’t mean they know why I believe or even what my beliefs mean.
On this day when the skies went dark our Savior hung on the cross as that message. Jesus is our why and our way. His death was not for nothing and His defeat over death cannot be disproved.
The way I share my love for Christ does not have to be overbearing or controlling. If someone chooses Christ; it’s not on me and it’s not on me if they don’t. It’s on me if I say nothing.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
Lately, I have stood back and said nothing. Out of fear of what someone might think, how they might react or the need to control the situation. But, as Easter is my favorite season it cannot be taught or remembered with empty emotion.
If I can share my faith with a stranger; I ought to yearn the same to spread this love for Jesus with those I closest to me.
When asked: “Do you love me?” I can only honestly say yes if I have been willing to step out of my comfort and give my heart.
Jesus died for you. Jesus died for the world. Do not let this go unknown. Our days are numbered, do not let this one thing go unspoken. You were given a purpose. You were given a second chance when He brought you from the slimy pit. When you were washed clean it was not done in vain.
Come alongside me. Be bold. Love well. Live your faith out loud.
